Main tasks:

  • To carry out routine and non-routine operational activities including plant improvements and repairs
  • To minimise and package nuclear materials
  • Glovebox operations
  • Flasking operations
  • To remove and transfer hazardous materials etc. to designated storage locations
  • To operate ancillary equipment such as cranes and Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP), etc.
  • To assemble and dismantle nuclear decommissioning equipment
  • Taking readings
  • Potential for working with non-licensed asbestos/hazardous materials
  • Can be lone working in silent hours for site surveillance
  • Scaffold building
  • Painting (ALARA rubberised paint)
  • Cleaning
  • Taking part in testing of plant and decommissioning processes, including testing drains
  • You must be able to rapidly evacuate the criticality zone, if necessary, without assistance or causing a delay to others

Equipment:

All employees will be fully trained and competent in the use of the equipment recorded below.

  • IPM9 and hand/foot monitors
  • Respirator and air fed respirators
  • Airline suits
  • C-bins and C-bin trolleys
  • Gloveboxes
  • Cleaning materials and other COSHH hazards
  • Small hand tools including cutters, drills, nibblers and grinders
  • Manipulators
  • Large tools such as jack hammers
  • Reciprocating saw, evolution saw and band saw
  • Manual handling equipment
  • Where required/available: overhead pendant crane, forklift truck, etc.
  •  Ladders

Working conditions (including environment and location):

  • Working in a radiological area
  • Working at height
  • Working in confined spaces
  • Hot working
  • Arduous working
  • Working with chemicals
  • Lots of walking and stair climbing – mainly indoor but can be outside
